The Peace and Justice Committee is dedicated to upholding our UU Principles by fighting for equality and justice for all living beings. We do this by supporting local organizations who fight for justice on a grass-roots level; often taking our causes to the street. We prompt our legislators to vote for the benefit of their constituents. We follow the lead of UUJusticePA to fight causes such as climate change. We also look to the UUA national organization for valuable enrichment programs. Please join us in our effort to make our world a better place, one voice at a time. Here are the activities we are currently involved in.

Protecting Our Democracy/Electoral Process
We work with POWER Interfaith for fair, safe and open voting for all, as well as with Fair Districts PA to stop Gerrymandering!

Anti Racism/Pro Allyship

We work toward a more just society by supporting organizations such as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Association for Nonviolence in Philadelphia. We also work to address the environment, criminal justice, and poverty which work to suppress marginalized peoples. Our current effort is to address racism in our own organization through Widening the Circle of Concern (See Below)

Widening the Circle of Concern
Our goal is to create a culture of Inclusion that makes all marginalized and underrepresented individuals feel welcome and gives them reasons to want to stay and help us build a beloved community in which we can all grow together. Please join us in this loving journey to learn, experience and grow together.  Click here to learn more.

Immigrant Rights
Widening the Circle and defending immigrant rights work hand-in-hand. We support immigrants through the Jack and Rose Marie Schieber Memorial Immigrant Scholarship with Bucks County Community College, made possible by the generosity of our congregation.
Our committee members tutor immigrant children and give them rides to voting locations and doctor visits. We also support refugees through our Split-Plate program. (See Below)

Climate Change
The predictions are dismal. Everyone needs to play a part in repairing our precious planet. We work with UUJPA and POWER Interfaith to keep this effort at the forefront of everyone’s consciousness. We can no longer afford to put climate repair on the back burners. As UUs we believe it is our duty to work fearlessly on this important issue. We all know it is for the future of our children, our grandchildren and generations to come.

Split Plate Program
Every Sunday our congregants donate to our Fellowship. Half or more (donor’s choice) is put aside and given to various charitable (501c3) organizations. These groups are thoroughly vetted by the Peace and Justice Committee. Our Split Plate recipients support LGBTQI+ youths and adults, those below the poverty level, victims of domestic abuse, cancer patients, and so much more. We have given to https://hiaspa.org/ to help Afghan and Haitian refugees.

Apartment Partners

We work with the Bucks County Housing Group which offers a program for families who need help getting on their feet.  We sponsor an apartment in their Doylestown location.  When a new family moves into the apartment, we provide basic household items such as kitchen equipment, cleaning supplies, bedding for each family member, bath items including towels for each family member, some food to get the family started since they usually are coming from an emergency situation and much more.  During the year we give holiday gifts to each member of the family, holiday food baskets, and additional support depending on the needs of the family.
