Announcements
Want to delve into Unitarian Universalism with thousands of other UUs? Then UUA General Assembly(GA) is for YOU! This year GA is 6/18-22, 2025 in Baltimore MD or online.
GA is the UUA’s annual gathering where we live our mission and principles as we explore theological underpinnings of our faith and conduct business of the Association. Choose from inspirational worship services and informative workshops, explore the exhibit hall, and meet UUs from throughout the world.
Make our voice heard by being a delegate representing BuxMont at GA business meetings. BuxMont needs 3 delegates. No special skills required! Plus, BuxMont pays delegates’ registration. To find out more, contact Karen Reever.
GA is an unforgettable experience. Ask anyone who’s attended and they’re sure to affirm that you’ll leave with renewed commitment to UUism, and innovative ideas to share with your congregation and community-at-large. Register in March for reduced rates.
BuxMont Gardens: A precious resource that needs care
BuxMont sits on a beautiful verdant plot of land near a creek. We can all enjoy the sunshine, flowers and trees, and the sounds of birds, in a lovely setting. We are the stewards of this bit of earth. Our gardens need tender loving care to stay healthy. They need the effort of humans to look neat, inviting and colorful. Please join the BuxMont Gardeners’ group and help take care of our environment. See Susie Hook or Melissa Egbertson for more info.
SHARING ABUNDANCE
Food insecurity is a continuing concern to Buxmonters. Since Ingathering last September, you have shared your abundance and brought shelf-stable food items to Buxmont every week. Thus far you have donated over 396 pounds of food plus 201 individual food items to seven different food pantries in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Thank you for your generosity! The need continues, and the need is great. Please help! The collection table is in the corner of the Social Hall. Let’s continue to share abundance!
Buxmonters shared abundance and it really makes a difference. This week (week of 3/10/2025) you provided 75 food items to the Willow Grove Baptist Food Pantry on Dresher Rd. where over 200 families a week are served. You can make a difference for food insecure families by continuing to bring shelf-stable food items to the Shared Abundance corner in the Social Hall. Thank you for caring and thank you for your generosity!
Writing Checks to the Cause or Charity of the Month (previously known as Split Plate Recipient)
When someone donates via check to the cause/charity of the month, it’s often not clear to the Finance team (who processes these checks) how the donation should be allocated when “split plate” is written. Some people want their donation split between a basket donation and the cause/charity of the month. Others want the entire donation to go to the cause/charity of the month. Starting now if you wish 100% of your donation to go to the cause/charity of the month, please write Cause or Charity on the check. If you want to divide the amount between a basket donation and the cause/charity, you should write Divide on the check.
Keep Up with BuxMont’s Communications
In addition to occasional emails and announcements during Sunday services, we send texts to keep our community apprised of what’s happening at BuxMont. As you know, there is a lot happening at BuxMont, but no worries, you will not get a lot of texts! We anticipate sending this at about the same frequency as our email announcements, we simply want to reach as many people in our congregation as possible. However, you need to opt-in to be included in the text messaging.
Please Sign Up to opt in to receive our text messages. We know that some people look at their text messages more closely than their emails. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Circle Dinners
A tradition of Unitarian Universalism, Circle Dinners offer a lovely evening in a member’s home enjoying the great company of new and old friends as well as sharing a delicious meal.
See more details including how to signup on the Circle Dinners webpage.
Sign up forms will be in the Social Hall for the June 7 Circle Dinner starting Sunday, May 4 through May 25. See Jeannie Bellavance for more details.
Wednesday-Night Vespers Service, May 21
Join us for our monthly Vespers Service at BuxMont, the third Wednesday of each month
from 6:45 – 7:30 p.m.
If you can’t make it, put future ones on your calendar. We will have them each month through May.
This service will be contemplative, music-filled, candlelit, with times of silence, and poetry or short readings rather than a sermon. We will have the sanctuary dimmed, not be using any streaming or screens, and be exploring how to build in time in our lives for contemplation and community.
Come and see if this unplugged time is what you’ve been craving as we begin the new year.
Circle of Exploration
Please join us for spirited conversation on Tuesday, May 20, in the Fireside Library at 12:00 p.m. to explore topics, concerns, ideas or trivia. Each month a different “explorer” starts the conversation with a subject that intrigues them.
This month Tom Cole wants to explore efforts for Peace: past, present and future
In the past: philosophers and theologians have discussed the causes of war.
In the present: violent behavior seems to be on the rise.
In the future: what are the ways to mitigate violence and alleviate the conditions which make war more likely?
What strategies for Conflict Resolution can prevent war?
Perhaps, the more we have inner peace, the less chance there is for war.
This hour-long, once-a-month meetup is in-person only. We sometimes bring snacks so we can eat as we explore new topics, maybe even bring some of your favorite local food to share.
Please contact Donna Laing at donna laing <at>aol <dot> com if you have any questions.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 20 at noon.
Book Club on Zoom, May 30
Book club meets via Zoom on the last Friday of every month. May’s meeting is at 1:30 pm on
Friday, May 30. See our Monthly Meetings page for the Zoom info, available on the weekly eVoice.
Volunteers Needed for Our Unsheltered Neighbors
When it gets too cold for our neighbors living in their cars or in tents, two Code Blue projects–one in Doylestown and a new one in Lower Bucks–provide a hot meal and an overnight cot with clean bedding. Advocates for the Homeless & Those in Need in Fairless Hills can only offer a warm bed when at least 18 volunteers are available. So if you have a big heart and time to volunteer overnight, driving, or for other shorter tasks, please register here to attend an orientation for Lower Bucks taking place in Morristown or online. Or else in Doylestown, the Coalition to Shelter & Support the Homeless also needs volunteers.
Donations for the new project are also greatly appreciated and will help cover transportation and other costs. To give, please click here.
Be Part of BuxMont’s Culture of Welcome!
We are changing how we fill the many roles needed to have Sunday mornings happen each week. As part of that change, we are asking folks to sign up to be ushers with the Worship Committee. Ushers welcome people to our sanctuary, offer orders of service and hymnals, and help collect the offering. Sign-up for one Sunday, every 2nd Sunday or something in between. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please contact worship <at> buxmontuu <dot> org.
Song Circle
Do you enjoy singing just for fun? Do you enjoy listening to other people sing and play musical instruments? Song Circle meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. and it is a hybrid group. See more information on our web page.
Interested in Joining a Small Group Ministry at BuxMont?
Small Group Ministry offers BuxMonters a monthly meeting, online or in-person, where we listen carefully to what is happening in each other’s lives and to each other’s views on spiritual/ philosophical topics. Interested? Please contact our administrator <at> buxmontuu <dot> org at the Fellowship Office.
Split Plate Recipient for May 2025: The Baby Bureau
The Baby Bureau started in 2011, donating gently used and new baby clothing to underserved and at-risk babies in and around Warminster. Each “Baby Bundle” includes blankets, onesies, sleepers, hats, bibs, diapers, wipes, books, toys and shoes. These “Baby Bundles” are donated to social service providers that determine the needs of the mom or caregiver and baby. The Baby Bureau partners with 40 local hospitals, shelters, food banks, and any social service provider that assists moms/caregivers in need. It’s the
support of our many volunteers and community partners that make these “Baby Bundles” possible. In February of this year The Baby Bureau delivered its 10,000 th bundle of joy.
BuxMont’s split plate program was initiated in October 2004. 50% of the cash offerings received during Sunday services goes to help organizations in BuxMont’s community that serve those in need. Since this program began, we have donated more than $200,000.
