Using poetry as her hook, Pat has engaged audiences for many years raising questions inherent to identity and socialization…the why’s of police brutality, the why’s of corporate or political behaviors that show disdain for any bloc of citizens.

Patricia DeBrady came from Erie, PA with a relatively good public education. She chose Cheyney State College for her entry to teaching in the Philadelphia schools. St. John’s College awarded her an MA at some point in her forties. This was a joy since reading and thinking were natural behaviors promoted by wonderful teachers at Wayne elementary and East School. Her own career as a teaching professional led from elementary classrooms to becoming an instructor in local community colleges.

During her marriage, she became involved with community organizations including her UU church, where she addressed the absence of respect for and inclusion of minorities in all aspects of American social and political lives.

Pat’s observation and participation in community building and UU activism included founding of what has become a statewide advocacy network, UUPLAN. Gratefully, this effort has been transformed by more contemporary leadership now provided by Tim Styer of UUMA and the late Rev. Joan Spengler. Now, UUJusticePA meets via Zoom.

Pat DeBrady’s pronouns are old/observant.
