“Flying too close to the sun,” has become an idiom cautioning those who would be too risky or too ambitious. But there is more to the story of Icarus and perhaps we have drawn the wrong lessons from this often-referenced myth. Join us as we begin our new program year and think about what it means to live our values out loud in the world together.
Our community marks the beginning of each year with an ingathering service and a water ceremony adapted from the one created by Unitarian Universalist women in 1980. There will be an outdoor altar to gather water prior to the Sunday service for those joining us virtually.
All are invited to bring a small amount of water from your home, from your summer travels, or from a place sacred to you as we regather, remember, and to begin again. This water will be combined with the water of years past to be made into our community waters for rituals. We will have plenty of water to share if you forget yours.
Rev. Kevin (he/him) has been BuxMont UU Fellowship’s minister since 2018. Beyond congregational life, Kevin is Adjunct Faculty with the Humanist Studies Program of the American Humanist Association, tries to maintain a meditation practice, and loves (perhaps too much) using his Bullet Journal.
