The High Holidays & the Spiritual Practice of Teshuvah

As September draws to a close and Summer gifts its hours to Fall, we’ll take a moment to pause and to rest in the wisdom and sacredness of the Jewish High Holidays. As the threshold of the New Year was crossed, greetings such as “Shana Tova u’Metukah” or “Shana Tova,” “L’shanah tovah tikateivu v’teichateimu”, and “Happy Rosh Hashanah” filled the air. Gentle blessings of “may you have a good and sweet new year” or “a good year,” “a good year, and may you be inscribed and sealed (for blessing in the Book of Life),” and “Happy New Year.” The Divine and tradition know that for such a blessing to blossom and thrive, it is important that we honor the sacred practice of returning to ourselves, of coming back to that place where we belong – of who we were meant to be all along. As one journeys through the Time of Awe and engages in the sacred practice of Teshuvah, there is an opportunity to reflect, consider mistakes, transform, seek forgiveness, and experience moral renewal or spiritual return. To tend to and foster a deeper understanding of sacred interconnectedness. Join us for our annual High Holidays service where we will explore the themes of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and its practice of moral and spiritual transformation. 

Rev. Shaie has been blessed with a life that’s provided her with opportunities to meet folx from diverse backgrounds, communities, and cultures. Her work experiences include theatre and television, photo researching, being a chaplain at a children’s hospital, and accounting. She earned her Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School in 2018, and on the night of the Autumn Equinox in 2025, she was co-ordained by BuxMontUU and UUs of Mt. Airy, the congregation where she completed her ministerial internship. Most recently, she joined BuxMont UU Fellowship as their Affiliated Community Minister.

  • 10:15 a.m. – Gathering Time In-person
  • 10:30 a.m. – Sunday Service both Online & In-person
  • 10:30 a.m. – Religious education provided for children from birth through teens. All classes begin at 10:45 and last through the end of service.
  • 11:30 a.m. – In-person Social Time
