A spiritual look at the statistics behind our unlikely and very improbable existence. This message was inspired by a conversation with a philosopher over a cup of coffee and a deck of cards that led to reflections on the unlikelihood of us ever meeting. Diving into an exploration and understanding of the miraculous nature of our very existence, this discussion very well may bring us to a realization that maybe we don’t believe in miracles because “miracles are the impossible coming true, and everything is possible.”
Nick Sanchez (he/el) is a Candidate for Preliminary Fellowship with the UUA and a chaplain at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He just finished his ministerial internship at WellSprings Congregation in Chester Springs, and graduated in June from Iliff School of Theology (at the top of his class) with his MDiv degree. Nick serves our larger faith as a member of the Nominating Committee at the Church of the Larger Fellowship, and he hopes to see the Ministerial Formation Committee later this year. His studies and ministry have had a strong focus on liberatory justice, interfaith work, pluralist spirituality, and mysticism. Beyond his ministerial work, Nick is a husband, father, and lifelong learner. He loves spending time playing with his daughter and watching movies with his wife, drumming, “fixing” almost anything, woodworking, and sharing good conversation (especially over coffee).
