Paintings by Kendra Schieber
Kendra Schieber is a sign designer, calligrapher, oil painter, and part owner of The Sign Studio in Corinth, NY, where she currently lives. Originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, she studied oil painting for several years with Betty Burford (Churchville, PA); Frank Mason (Art Student’s League, New York City, NY); Takeyce Walter (Saratoga Art Center, Saratoga Springs, NY); and with Thomas Torak (Pawlet, VT and ASL). Her recent work at the 2014 Morristown, NY Public Library Pein Air Festival was awarded the Simone Chevigny Kirtz Award, taking third place, juried by Laura Foster, Director and Curator of the Frederic Remington Museum in Ogdensburg, NY. She also has work currently in the juried show, “Sights + Sounds” at the Saratoga Arts Center Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY. The large BuxMont sign on Street Road is her work, as are several signs in the Wrightstown area and at Solebury Orchards in New Hope.
The work on exhibit here was almost exclusively done en plein air in and around Vermont and her home in upstate New York. She loves trying to capture a moment in the morning light or expressing the feelings of the deep shadows and light of early evening. She often starts with the middle gray mixed from yesterday’s palette scrapings, trying hard to use up all the paint.
Kendra is very grateful to have the opportunity to exhibit her work at BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, the church she grew up in from the ages of 8 through 18. She comes back regularly whenever visiting the area. She is the daughter of long-time BMUUF members, Jack and Rose Marie Schieber.
